Conservatory Alum Wins Violin Chair

The Amernet String Quartet, Ensemble-in-Residence at Florida International University, is delighted to announce the appointment of Franz Felkl as Interim 2nd Violinist for the 2016-2017 season. After a brief reading session, Misha, Michael, and Jason became enamored of Franz's gorgeous tone, musical instincts, and engaging personality. A protégé of Elmar Oliveira, Franz is a native of Juneau, Alaska and made his debut performing the Tchaikovsky concerto with the Fairbanks Symphony. He earned degrees in music education and violin performance from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks while holding a position with the Fairbanks Symphony as assistant principal second violin and also acted as concertmaster of the Juneau Symphony Orchestra. During his graduate studies at Lynn University, Franz served as concertmaster of the Lynn Philharmonia and performed as a member of the Florida Grand Opera, Palm Beach Symphony, and other leading south Florida ensembles. He has been praised by South Florida Classical Review for playing with 'organ-like resonance.'  Franz's first concerts with the Amernet are this coming Monday and Tuesday at the Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music Society. We look forward to a great season ahead!
