2015 Lynn Concerto Competition Winners Announced


Four Conservatory students were declared winners of the 2015 LYNN Concerto Competition, which was held Oct. 9-11 in the Amarnick-Goldstein Concert Hall. Thirty students applied for the competition, twenty-eight performed in the preliminary round, ten were selected as finalists, and four were chosen as winners and will perform as soloists with the Lynn Philharmonia in the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performaing Arts Center on Feb. 6 & 7, 2016 with Maestro Figueroa conducting.  The winners were tubist Sodienye Finebone, pianist Chance Israel, violinist Yalyen Savignon, and violist Yizhu Mao.  Violinist Herongjia Han was designated the alternate and collaborative pianist Darren Matias earned the award for "Most Outstanding Orchestral Reduction Performance".    The jury was comprised of guest musicians including cellist Lynn Harrell (International Concert Artist), oboist Nancy Ambrose King (University of Michigan) and pianist James Giles (Northwestern University).
