Alyssa Jacobson ’15

My name is Alyssa Jacobson and I am a grateful recipient of the Stephanie Crispinelli Endowed Memorial Scholarship. It is my first semester at Lynn University as a transfer student from Boston, Mass. I am from the small beach town of Jupiter, Florida and I study Public Relations and Advertising as a sophomore. I transferred from Northeastern University with a 3.76 GPA and would like to graduate Lynn as valedictorian of the class of 2013.

When I first heard about the opportunity the university provides to students to travel to a variety of destinations around the world for the purpose of bettering the lives of individuals, I immediately researched the locations offered.  I chose to apply for the Bali
J-term because this program helps the lives of orphaned and impoverished children.

I am genuinely passionate about changing the lives of people in need.  My grandparents were Holocaust survivors that risked their lives to try and save anyone they could, as they worked in the kitchen at the camps and could hide food in their clothing. They did this for nothing in return, because in the Jewish religion we are told to do as many “mitzvahs” as possible. I understand a mitzvah to be a random act of kindness with nothing expected in return. Their stories will be passed along to the generations of their children and to my children’s children.

The opportunity to travel to Bali to help people in need and hopefully leave a mark in the hearts of children is a mitzvah beyond any other I could imagine. I would like to thank you for helping me make my dream come true by sincerely making a difference in the world.
