Pianist Jie Ren wins southern division in MTNA competition

Jie Ren, an undergraduate piano major and student of Roberta Rust in the Conservatory of Music, won the Southern Division of the MTNA Steinway Young Artist Performance Competition on Jan. 19 in Greensboro, N.C. She competes as a national finalist on March 11 during the MTNA National Conference in Anaheim, Calif. The national winner of this competition receives a Steinway & Sons piano and will perform in a Winners Concert during the conference.

The three-tiered MTNA competitions begin at the state level. Winners of each state competition advance to the division competition. Division winners then proceed to the national competition finals.
