Carl Schmid ’13

My name is Carl Schmid, and I am writing this letter in appreciation of the scholarship from the Ruth Nelson Kraft Foundation. This is the second year I have been awarded the scholarship, and it is very sincerely appreciated!

 I am entering my junior year at Lynn University, where I am a Violin Performance major. I am on the Deans List with a 3.9 GPA, and have been on the honor roll since I started at Lynn.

Originally, I am from Mendham, N.J., but my life has taken me to many different states and areas. Before enrolling at Lynn I was a bit of a “wanderer,” as I toured and performed across the country with a number of well known music acts. However, my life was far from stable – and I never felt like a success because I didn’t have a degree. That all changed two years ago when I was discovered in Boca Raton by the members of the music faculty at Lynn. They were out eating dinner and saw me perform. We talked during my break, and they encouraged me to apply at Lynn. The rest is history!

It’s been an incredible few years at Lynn. My life has changed dramatically as a direct result of school. I am on a full tuition scholarship, which is the only way school would be possible. I have rediscovered my love of classical music, and have applied myself to the task at hand.

I was never good in school growing up – I had two learning disabilities and was always struggling just to make a “C” average. Lynn has been wonderful – the teachers and staff have overextended themselves to help me out – and the results have been extraordinary. My whole life has changed!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am so very grateful for folks like you who make education possible for guys like me. I have a tremendous sense of accomplishment and self worth as a direct result of your generosity. Again, it is MUCH appreciated!
